Isac Costa is a lawyer with practice in capital markets, financial regulation, and themes related to technological innovation applied to Law, such as fintechs and virtual assets (cryptoassets). He has over twenty years of experience in a trajectory that includes information systems architecture, market surveillance and enforcement, teaching, legal practice, and consulting.
He holds a Doctorate (JSD) in Economic and Financial Law from USP and a Master’s in Business Law from FGV Direito SP. He is also a Computer Engineer from ITA, a background that guides his work in themes such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and compliance. He is a professor of lato sensu graduate studies and executive education at Insper in capital markets, corporate finance, and law and technology subjects, where he coordinates the LLM programs in Corporate Law and Capital Markets Regulation and Financial Innovation.
He was a Capital Markets Analyst at the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), working in market surveillance, enforcement proceedings, and advising the Commissioners on Corporate Law matters, market manipulation/abuse, insider trading, and regulation of intermediaries and investment professionals. He advises companies on regulatory issues regarding the Brazilian Financial System and compliance in general, as well as in the design and risk assessment of innovative business structures and models, especially in the context of the digital economy.
Isac is recognized as one of the leading specialists in cryptoassets, with a trajectory that combines regulatory experience, academic work, and sophisticated legal practice in operations involving digital assets. A reference author and constant voice in debates regarding the regulatory framework for crypto in the country, having played a central role in the legal interpretation of tokens, exchanges, stablecoins, and innovative market structures. His presence on the team adds immediate technical credibility and positions the firm at the highest level of specialization in blockchain and crypto themes.
He participates in courses, events, and study groups related to corporate law and the financial market, and dedicates himself to researching themes at the intersection of law, finance, and technology through the Instituto Brasileiro de Inovação e Tecnologia (IBIT), of which he is a director. His intellectual production includes books, articles, and chapters on financial regulation, capital markets, and digital assets, including High Frequency Trading em Câmera Lenta (Almedina).
He was responsible for organizing the collection CryptoLaw: Inovação, Direito e Desenvolvimento, being the author of several technical studies for abcripto, such as the “Censo da Criptoeconomia no Brasil 2023” and the study “Tokenização no Brasil – um Estudo Qualitativo,” published in 2025. Since 2020, he has published biweekly columns in Estadão/Broadcast+ and Consultor Jurídico on financial innovation and regulation.
